Abstract
In this session, presenters will focus on research methods for social justice and equity in education, with the goal to provide a meaningful exploration of multi-method approaches. They challenge static, uncritical, and essentialized notions of research methodologies to democratize evidence. The topics presenters take up include: Theoretical frameworks that are used in critical scholarship; The epistemologies that form the foundations for social justice research in education; Critiques of the prevalent models for research from a social justice and equity-oriented position with particular emphasis on how those models are constructed through power relations; Theoretical considerations such as positionality, insider/outsider positioning, and other issues; Modes of humanizing data collection; Approaches to data analysis from quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methodologies.
