Abstract

Recognizing the benefits of the communal model for the professional learning of teachers, in this symposium we explore this model's application for the professional learning of teacher educators. Though collaboration is considered a powerful professional learning environment, there is a need for more research regarding the contribution and possibilities of this framework for teacher educators' learning. The studies in this symposium show different benefits and challenges of communal learning for the individual faculty and for the teacher-education institutions and beyond. By placing a research lens on professional learning communities' contributions and challenges we aim to influence policies regarding professional learning communities as a preferred model for teacher educators' professional learning.
