Abstract

This symposium aims to examine different ways of doing reading, reviewing, mentoring and writing in academia. The current impetus to produce a proliferation of research articles and to graduate as quickly as possible in response to the quantification imperatives of higher education has meant that scholarly practices have become highly pressurized and sometimes unpleasant for academics. The papers in this symposium examine ways in which these practices can be reclaimed by academics to become spaces where a depth of engagement, an openness, a generosity and a cultivation of pleasure can be foregrounded. This symposium will also include innovative approaches that push the present boundaries that have served academia until now and propose new ways of doing academic work.
