Session Summary

63.070 - Bad Girl Theory and Practice: Qualitative Research in Post-Truth Times

Mon, April 8, 10:25 to 11:55am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Second Floor, Civic Ballroom South

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session will bring together “on the edge” work in qualitative inquiry from several feminist scholars. Across ethnography, biography, autobiography, psychoanalysis and speculative philosophy our work is influenced by earlier feminist scholarship that opened a door in terms of possibilities for women as scholars who not only included women but shifted the terms of inclusion. Long interested in various shifts in cultural theory, from structuralism to poststructuralism, postcolonialism, psychoanalysis, queer theory and intersectionality to post-critical and the new materialism, our great interest, always, is what difference such theories might mean in addressing the question of how knowledge remains possible given the end of the value free notion of the construction of “truth.”
