Session Summary

28.067 - Findings and Reflections From a Cross-National, Cross-Role (Ph.D., Post-Ph.D. Researchers) Research Program: Possibilities and Challenges

Sat, April 6, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 206A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Increasingly, researchers are expected to engage in collaborative research, often cross-national, cross disciplines and cross-role (PhD, postdoc and experienced researchers). Such research is common in the sciences, but we would argue less evident in the social sciences, particularly as regards doctoral and postdoctoral experiences. The symposium relies on our experience after five years developing a European cross-national, cross-role and multi-method research program, which have already reached several outputs and publications. To develop such research and work in a diverse team (nationally, disciplinarily and role) has proven to be challenging. In this symposium, we want to examine these challenges as well as some findings and reflect on lessons learned and open questions.
