Abstract

This symposium brings together leading international scholars to define and delineate the construct of integration, a critical reasoning skill for learners in the 21st century. Papers in this symposium jointly consider the challenges and affordances of a wide range of methods (e.g., think alouds, Bayesian Networks) and assessments (e.g., written responses, inventory of inter-textual inferences) used to capture integration. Authors in this symposium will be guided by three goals: (a) to define integration and, therefore, propose how it ought be assessed; (b) to juxtapose integration with a host of other learner, task, and text-related factors that may have a bearing on multiple text integration; and (c) to consider how integration may be developed and assessed in classroom settings.
