Session Summary

66.027 - Ask for Evidence: Identifying, Preventing, and Counteracting Scientific and Educational Myths

Mon, April 8, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine, Chestnut West

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium brings together researchers and educators from different countries to share and discuss their endeavors to identify, prevent and counteract scientific and educational myths. The five presentations cover a range of data-based studies with different target persons and intensity of interventions that have been conducted in different countries and educational systems. By presenting this research in one symposium, the studies pinpoint possible successful strategies for scientists and educators who share the goal of democratizing evidence in a ‘post-truth’ era. The symposium will also identify issues that still need to be addressed. The presentations will be critically summarized and expanded by the view of an expert in the field of learning and instruction.
