81.027 - Participating in Action: Shifting Social Contexts and the Lives of Immigrant-Origin Students

Abstract

This session highlights the ways in which immigrant-origin youth navigate their social positions given the current sociopolitical climate. The speakers will share data collected during a tumultuous historical moment that affects the uncertainty of the lives of immigrant and immigrant-origin students, including DACAmented students and educators.

This symposium will share findings from studies that explore the ways in which immigrant and immigrant-origin students and educators navigate their positionalities and negotiate civic engagement and belonging in the current sociopolitical climate. The session includes multiple methods such as ethnography of a Participatory Action Research collective meeting; an autoethnography of a DACAmented educator; a thematic qualitative analysis of focus groups; and a pluralistic analysis of virtual and verbal narratives of undocumented students.
