61.020 - Looking Back, Moving Forward: LGBTQ Research in the History of Education

Abstract

This session highlights the existing LGBTQ scholarship in the history of education while also charting new ground in this area. Participants include scholars who wrote some of the foundational LGBTQ works in the history of education, as well as scholars who have more recently started research projects in this area. Presentations include historiography and original archival research studies and cover K-12 and higher education, educators and students, and the early and late twentieth century. Challenges facing scholars and the field in advancing this line of research will be highlighted throughout the session.
