43.015 - Game-Based Assessment: How Has the Field Matured Over the Past 10 Years?

Sun, April 7, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Room 801B

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

Game-based assessment has emerged in the past decade as an alternative to conventional testing where multiple-choice items are widely used to measure discrete content knowledge, leading to neither authentic nor meaningful assessment. When the field first began to emerge, much of the research effort focused on demonstrating how games can be used as a vehicle for assessment of learning with psychometric rigor, and since then this approach has been incorporated across various contexts. This session aims to provide a venue to bring assessment and learning scientists together to examine how this field has been maturing over the past 10 years.
