35.051 - Exploring Pedagogies of Resistance: Auto-Ethnographies on Initiatives to Promote Activism

Sat, April 6, 4:10 to 6:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 202C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The objective is to provide a forum for grappling with multi-faceted initiatives to promote resistance against oppressive power relations in universities and the communities in which they are embedded. Our central goal is to address how such resistance can be translated into efficacious activism. We address curricular measures and other strategies we take to foster activism and resistance primarily drawing from field journals. We also address how we tackle pushback to our initiatives. The point is to highlight how educators can be agents of change by conducting Whiteness workshops and facilitating activism around racism, misogyny, and transnationalism, to name a few facets of the work we showcase.
