Abstract

Situated across diverse transnational locations, research foci and theoretical perspectives, session participants respond to the 2019 AERA Annual Meeting’s Call as elaborated by President Amy Stuart Wells: “to reach beyond our silos and single perspectives and work collaboratively across the borders and boundaries of our field.” To do so, we variously engage with a concept of “differing differences” that addresses a 2019 Conference sub-theme as well: to interrogate relations between a “post-truth” politics and exacerbations of racial, class, and gender inequalities in education policy and practice. Through theorizing, policy analyses, and interpretations of data gathered from differing local as well as national school-based studies, participants address situated threats to equal educational opportunities for historically positioned “others.”
