Session Summary

31.028 - New Directions in Curriculum Inquiry: Pushing Against/From/With the Margins

Sat, April 6, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine, Chestnut East

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The five papers in this session present work from curriculum scholars that engage and push against, from, and with the "margins" of the field in different ways. First, these are scholars who are positioned at the margins by intersecting dynamics of oppression; second, these scholars engage communities and/or topics at the margins of curriculum; and third, their work challenges the theoretical margins of the field, challenging what have become the prevailing orthodoxies of the field. In different ways, the five papers in this session emphasize critical, anti-oppressive, decolonizing, queer, trans, disability, and other approaches that seek to “Brown” or otherwise interrupt hegemonic and normative approaches to curriculum studies.
