64.019 - Leveraging Resources: A Statewide Perspective of Boys and Young Men of Color in California

Abstract

Nationally, young men of color do not graduate from high school, enroll in higher education, or earn college credentials at similar rates as their female peers. Thus, K-12 school districts, higher education, and philanthropies, and others adhered the call to address the various needs of young men of color by creating targeted programs and services. This symposium provides a state-level perspective about how systems of support are used, developed, and delivered in high schools, community-based organizations, a 23-campus-wide university system, and a consortium of philanthropies to address the needs of males of color in California. We will provide implications for researchers, practitioners, foundations, and other partners invested in the needs of boys and young men of color.
