77.017 - School Climate in the Age of Trump: Educators' Responses

Abstract

This symposium explores how the contentious current political climate has impacted public secondary teachers and principals across the United States. The papers in this session report on a series of surveys and interviews from 2017 and 2018 that explore the school climate and educational objectives of a representative sample of secondary schools across the nation. Through our symposium, we will explore how teachers and principals are grappling with the influence of a difficult political environment on their schools and classrooms, and will demonstrate that teachers and principals are pushing back against the post-truth paradigm by continuing to provide youth with accurate, timely, and relevant information
