66.063 - Disrupting Neoliberal, Deficit, and Colonial-Based Inclusion in the Post-Truth Era: Global Perspectives

Abstract

This symposium proposal unites scholars from sociology, education policy and leadership, and special education fields in search of analytical tools to disrupt narratives sustaining neoliberal, deficit, and colonial based inclusion policies stemming from post-truth politics in Italy, Kenya, and Ukraine. Drawing from sociocultural, constructivist, institutional, and critical justice theories, scholars brought examples of neoliberal, deficit, and colonial based inclusive education and critically examined its praxis toward multiply oppressed population. Given the infiltration of post-truth politics globally (Europe, United States, Africa, etc.), it is crucial to (re)frame the notion of inclusion. In such, a new political consensus can be generated among all citizens to (re)address issues of racial, class, gender, language, and disability inequalities existing within our societies.
