51.056 - The Earth's Future? Contestations, Complexities, and Tensions With Feminism(s) and Environmental Justice

Session Type: Workshop

Abstract

Exploring theoretical possibilities engendered by ecofeminism, posthumanism, and settler colonial critiques of both feminisms and environmental justice movements, this workshop focuses specifically on inviting education researchers from diverse disciplines in the importance of addressing unidentified cultural assumptions within and among the complex—and often contentious—intersections of feminism(s) and environmental justice scholarship with(in) environmental education research. The facilitating group in this workshop will share how such examinations include critical contestations with anthropocentrism in radical scholar-activism in connection with feminism(s) and experiences of anti-blackness and ableism in projects that seek to (re)imagine and enact more just and sustainable futures. Furthermore, the workshop will invite participants to share their experiences with working critically through feminist tensions in environmental education.
