Session Summary

77.020 - Next Generation Science Standards Assessment Design Across Use Cases: From Formative Classroom Assessment to Large-Scale Accountability Assessment

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Confederation 3

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) pose significant challenges for assessment. Some of these challenges are a result of the complexity of the standards themselves (e.g., multidimensional construct) and therefore shared by all NGSS-aligned assessments, and some are specific to different assessment use cases (e.g., need to assess breadth and depth of the construct and need to provide diagnostic feedback on performance). This symposium will compare and contrast approaches to NGSS assessment design for large-scale accountability testing and formative classroom use, and examine the extent to which these can support one another in an assessment system.
