66.062 - The Place of Race in the Cracker State: Regional Identities and Whiteness Pedagogies in Context

Abstract

Adding to recent research on critical White studies in education, presenters in this symposium advance the specificity of regional understandings of whiteness pedagogies in context with specific focus on White teacher/student identities in the US South. Continuing recent research on whiteness in higher education (the place that race makes in the academy) and second wave whiteness studies, presenters in this symposium articulate antiracist curriculum resources and whiteness pedagogies with specific emphasis on campus environment and teacher education in the US South. Overall, insights from this research advance work in White teacher identity studies by articulating specific work on racial conscientization in context.
