Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Drawing upon empirical data from four different academic systems, this session explores the future of academic freedom in higher education by identifying threats and defining universal values. Each of the session’s papers is motivated by three objectives: 1) to raise awareness about global threats to academic freedom; 2) to develop a working understanding of academic freedom; and 3) to encourage discussion about the importance of academic freedom to scholars who wish to increase educational opportunities and ameliorate inequalities.
