Test-Based Accountability (TBA) policies have expanded internationally. Nonetheless, research is inconclusive concerning the particular circumstances under which TBA generates its intended effects (for instance, on instructional improvement and addressing learning gaps) or, otherwise, produces unexpected or side effects (cream-skimming, students’ tracking, narrowing the curriculum and so on).
The papers included in this panel will explore, on the one hand, the international dissemination of TBA solutions to different contexts and, on the other hand, how different TBA designs might produce different effects when implemented in different institutional and school settings. Most case studies covered by the panel presentations have been developed in countries where research on TBA reforms is still underdeveloped (such as India, Chile, and Norway).
