Session Type: Symposium
The panelists for this session are committed to cultivating diversity in STEM, and will discuss their work towards creating a data-capable workforce through innovative STEM teaching and learning programs. This session will be largely discussion-based, starting with flash-talks from the presenters, followed by Q&A. Each of the programs approaches data and diversity from a different perspective - from high schoolers using GIS data to address issues in their community, to using stopwatches and string to engage elementary students in playful explorations of data modeling. The presenters will focus on the importance of data literacy, and how the results of their program evaluations will contribute to the advancement of K - 12 education.
