Session Type: Symposium
As a way to reify the narratives of, and articulations by Women of Color (WoC) in educational research, this session highlights WoC feminisms and Critical Race paradigms as theoretical, methodological, and epistemological foundations, to ask: How do we challenge research that (1) privileges narrative “truths” about white males and Men of Color and (2) marginalizes and skews WoC educational realities? The authors present qualitative work that centers the narratives of WoC to disrupt historical and contemporary “truths” in education, and affirm WoC’s knowledges as integral to transforming discourse and perceptions about Communities of Color. Ultimately, through gender- and race-conscious inquiry, the authors make an explicit attempt to combat a dehumanizing political climate that maintains oppressive systems of power.
