Mon, April 8, 4:10 to 6:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 205A

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session brings together university teacher educators who work to support prospective teacher learning to teach diverse learners through reflection. Drawing on research conducted by five teacher educators across different teacher education programs in the United States and Ireland, we address three questions: (1) What do prospective and in-service teachers reflect on student diversity? (2) How do teacher educators support prospective teachers’ critical reflection on student diversity that challenges deficit thinking of diverse students? And (3) What is the impact of prospective teachers’ reflection on their classroom teaching? We provide findings based on multiple data sources such as prospective teachers’ reflection data, triangulated with classroom observations and interviews to address the research questions.
