Session Summary

79.037 - Walking Alongside Teacher Candidates: Embracing Collaboration During Clinical Practice and Teaching Performance Assessments

Tue, April 9, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 707

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium will explore how a reconstructed Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) supports collaborative and innovative approaches in performance assessment that drive teacher education programs to prepare teachers with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to develop critical, equitable and asset-oriented learning environments. The audience will be exposed to the measurement of performance expectations, and the cohesive support that a performance assessment system can offer candidates at the pre-service level. Furthermore, the audience will also gain insight into the methodological approaches that were taken to reconstruct the TPA in order to provide an authentic and valid assessment tool that confronts the shortcomings of other state sponsored performance assessments, while leveling the playing field for a more diverse set of new teacher candidates.
