Session Summary

51.027 - Pedagogies of Joy :) Joy as Resistance at the Intersection of STEM Learning Pathways

Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Sheraton Hall E

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This structured poster session examines intersectionalities of joy within STEM learning pathways in dialogue with researchers of formal and informal learning environments. We explore pedagogies of joy because joy is theoretically underused and under-researched. We are not interested in looking at a single definition of joy across multiple contexts but rather learning more about the concept of joy through the multimodal ways each scholar takes it up in their work. Taken together, the posters attend to endogenous perspectives and honor experiences of participants from nondominant communities. They articulate critical perspectives on disciplinary learning including affect and expansive approaches to learning that include broadening forms of participation. The poster-set offers examples of ceding power through participatory and co-design.
