Session Type: Structured Poster Session
Physics Playground is a game for teaching conceptual physics to middle school students. Game levels require students to apply Newtonian mechanics to solve puzzles, and learning supports help with (a) game mechanics, (b) conceptual physics understanding and (c) managing on-track behavior. An underlying stealth assessment tracks students progress through the system, guiding game level and learning support selection.
This is an interactive poster session allowing attendees to explore the game, its implementation and its educational effectiveness. After brief overview talk, a series of breakout posters lead explore various aspects of the game design, implementation, integration and testing. At the same time, the game will be available on several laptops. An external discussant will lead a whole group reflection.
