34.067 - WITHDRAWN: Dismantling Hierarchies in a "Post-Truth" Era: Reenvisioning Equitable Educational Opportunities in International School Contexts

Sat, April 6, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 202C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

In a “post-truth” era, educational policy and practice are often misguided by unproven claims, posited theories lacking evidence, and subjective “realities”. In an effort to combat these alternate truths, in the midst of increased multiculturalism, there is a need for educational equity and legitimacy of perceived non-dominant cultures. As it stands, global “truth” is a site of struggle and hostility with its long history of subjugation of colonized and enslaved populations, inimical immigration policies, restrictive language policies and policy sharing that has little relevance in national or regional contexts. While each paper examines different issues surrounding educational equity on an international level, their theoretical groundings coalesce to tell powerful, multimodal narratives of critical conceptions of identity, community, discourse, and policy.
