Session Type: Roundtable Session
In ‘Technology and the new professionalization of teaching,’ Shaffer and colleagues (2015) discuss how immersive and interactive digital technologies are fundamentally shifting teachers’ pedagogical roles in orchestrating student learning. They also argue that these shifts necessitate a re-envisioning of how teachers are prepared to facilitate student learning in digitally-evolving classroom ecologies. Framed in the context of this scholarly work, this symposium brings together early career scholars from six institutions whose works have made conceptual and empirical contributions for making a specific technological/pedagogical innovation accessible to teachers. Presentations will address a pertinent issue (a black box) in computer science, design thinking, game-based learning, maker education, with pre- and in-service teachers as learners, in university, K-12 and informal spaces such as libraries.
