75.012 - WOKE Educational Leaders in the Era of Alternative Facts

Tue, April 9, 8:00 to 10:00am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 203C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

Given the limited research on positive narratives of children of color in education, their school context, and their teachers, this symposium aims to articulate truth with findings from investigations conducted throughout the U.S.. The studies highlight evidence-based practices, policies, and outcomes in K-20 education. This cross-disciplinary presentation includes research informed outcomes from a massive iPad integration, analyses of novice teacher capacity, findings from data-infused summer mathematics experiences for Black and Latinx students, policies supporting the diversification of the teacher workforce, practices for serving communities of color, and preparing diverse teachers to use data-informed practices. Researchers capture the opportunities and barriers to education in the era of alternative facts, and provide research and strategies to better position practitioners, scholars, and students.
