81.025 - Innovating MOOC Pedagogies

Tue, April 9, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Room 801A

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This structured poster session presents a wide-ranging account of efforts to design and implement new kinds of innovative features, based on contemporary pedagogical and research innovations from the Learning Sciences, for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The objective is to challenge existing narratives about MOOC pedagogies, and offer a vision for how they can be reimagined through theoretical, technological, and design innovations. Contributions explore a range of approaches, including novel participant structures, technological interventions for collaboration, learnersourcing, randomized experimental comparisons, co-design methods, project-based learning, and critical pedagogies. Researchers from several institutions will present work from a variety of contexts and subject areas, including teacher development, data science, mathematics, environmental sciences, computational thinking, and social impact topics.
