Abstract
This symposium presents five papers, reporting faculty research that promotes culturally relevant and sustaining educational spaces for Latinx students, drawing from pedagogical theory and research. At the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, institutionally-supported research groups addressed various dimensions of teaching and learning at an Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) college of education (COE) to answer the overarching question, “What does it mean to be a Hispanic-Serving COE, and how do we make this term meaningful?" As collaborative researchers, faculty aim various projects toward developing an identity as an HSI COE that reflects and embraces Mexican and Mexican American communities. These examples serve as models for HSIs in the borderlands and beyond, to create COEs that truly serve Latinxs.
