Abstract

In the last two decades since the Solorzano & Delgado-Bernal’s 2001 article titled Examining Transformational Resistance Through a Critical Race and LatCrit Theory Framework: Chicana and Chicano Students in an Urban Context was published, there has been an overwhelming response from educators who have engaged the framework outlined in the article. This symposium places the construct of transformational resistance in conversation with other works on youth resistance (Tuck & Yang, 2011; Morris, 2015) to (re)examine and (re)conceptualize student behaviors. We explore the ways that we as scholar-educators have expanded upon, complicated, and developed transformational resistance and draw upon empirical examples to offer theoretical and pedagogical implications for nurturing all forms of resistance towards transformation.
