Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

The purpose of this session is to address the following four inquiry based research questions related to Teachers of Color: (1) What does research say about the supports and structures that guide TOC along the teacher development continuum (i.e., from recruitment to status as a veteran teacher)? (2) What does research say about the barriers that prevent their successful matriculation along the teacher development continuum? (3) What does the research say about program, pedagogy, and policy changes needed to increase the number of TOC recruited and sustained in the U.S. teacher workforce? (4) What are the roles of research and scholarship for informing and holding accountable programs and policies for supporting and developing TOC along the teacher development continuum?
