Session Type: Structured Poster Session
Responding to the call to “leverage education research... through multimodal narratives to democratize evidence,” this session brings together 12 unique research studies that examine STEM learning in informal environments. The studies use a variety of quantitative and qualitative approaches to examine how different environments promote conceptual learning, interest development, and equity. By examining different environments as well as different agents (e.g. museum educators; library patrons; practicing professionals; families and youth), the compilation of these 12 individual studies help us to connect fundamental principles of learning that cross settings and agents and to contribute to our understanding of learning in informal environments. In addition to bringing together epistemological and methodological approaches, this session highlights the work of early-career researchers.
