Session Type: Symposium
Building upon Radical Dharma (Williams, Owens, Syedullah, 2016) and Radical Healing (Ginwright, 2010, 2015), this symposium discusses pedagogies of “mindful reflexivity” by examining how a mindfully-centered, systematic and nuanced approach to critical praxis (Freire, 1970) leads to shifts and/or deepened clarity in ideological stance(s) and cultural practices. This symposium crosses boundaries to explore a grounded theoretical framework alongside school staff and those working to obtain their teaching credential, administrative credential, or doctorate in education. The framework aimed to evaluate the Socio-historic, Tangible, Activity-directed, and Reflexivity-centered (STAR) conditions within their respective educational contexts. These papers demonstrate that the STAR framework offers a humanizing and concrete approach to address systemic inequalities at the individual, classroom, school, community, and systemic levels.
