79.036 - Queering Teaching and Teacher Education From an Intersectional Lens: Theories, Stories, and Practices

Abstract

Over the past decade, increased attention to the marginalization of queers of color across educational contexts in North America has forced urgent reevaluations of the legal, political, and pedagogical implications of exclusionary politics. The intersection within gay spaces is particularly important in setting the stage for articulating the interface between race and sexuality. Scholars, advocates, and activists have brought intersectional prisms to bear in analyzing the diverging trajectories of equality demands. In the spirit of theory to practice each panelist will, in a combination of presentation and discussion, share practical applications of a queer and/or trans-informed decolonizing approach to teacher education.
