Abstract

This paper session explores the importance of disability narratives and identity development in the lived realities, imaginaries and possibilities for empowerment and voice for disability reclamation in and around school contexts. Across the set of papers, a diverse range of theoretical, conceptual and methodological tools are honed in such an exploration to create new narratives and ontologies as it relates to the institutional lives of Mad and disabled subjects. The papers foreground the salience of understanding the ecological and sociocultural contexts of disabled narratives and voices and disability identity development, as opposed to a hegemonic medical-psychological understanding.
