18.052 - School Turnaround and Reform Efforts: Leadership to Augment Professional Capital and Student Learning

Abstract
This session encompasses cutting-edge research on the role of leadership in augmenting professional capital to support student learning. The authors will report their latest research on topics including university-community research partnerships to develop the capacity of leadership teams to use evidence-based research to provide support to teachers; the impact of the New Tech Network (NTN) design on students’ academic achievement and critical thinking skills, mathematical reasoning skills, and problem-solving techniques; the use of root cause analysis (RCA) to make appropriate instructional decisions; methods of upholding rigorous, student-centered instruction while responding to the challenges of a turnaround district; and alternative approaches to school turnaround in a community that defied the deficit-based definition of school worth imposed on them by NCLB.
