Session Type: Paper Session

Abstract

All the papers in this session address various ways to improve teaching in Professional Development Schools (PDSs). This may be accomplished by incorporating teacher leadership as part of the PDS model, and according to one paper, by developing transformational relationships between universities and k-12 schools. One study recommends that master teachers work in pairs, and another study seeks to improve student teaching through duoenthnoraphy where students work in pairs to reflect on their practices. Also presented is a faculty-in-residence approach which provides for professional development of teachers. These papers furnish a basis for a discussion on teacher leadership and ways to improve teaching in PDSs.
