In this panel discussion, we will explore how we believe teacher education programs, in traditional schools and colleges of education, might adapt to truly change the way children learn, particularly in urban settings. Our ideas are based on research and theory and include ideas such as: (1) Assessment integrated into culturally relevant pedagogy; (2) Project-based learning that transforms communities; (3) A focus on how students learn, based on the latest brain research, as opposed to how teachers teach; and (4) Understanding how to collect, analyze, and interpret student data.
