28.015 - Critical Mentoring: Living a Pedagogy of Love

Abstract

Join Darderian scholars for a discussion on critical mentoring as an act of radical love, knowledge co-creation, and transformation. Anchored in lived experiences, the panel will explore how critical mentoring throughout a doctoral program affirmed a pedagogical process that encouraged a life-affirming and politically committed praxis. Unlike traditional mentorship rooted in both an individualistic and deficit paradigm, critical mentoring challenges the transactional nature of mentoring and illuminates the power and reciprocal nature of relationship-building as imperative to self-determination and empowerment. As critical researchers and engaged practitioners, the panel will share how their mentoring experiences transformed the ways in which they approach their own work within a variety of educational contexts.
