Session Summary

61.007 - The Art of the Pushback

Mon, April 8, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 717B

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Whether one is pursuing a career in academia, K-12, or the private sector being able to self-advocate is a necessity. For some populations, there is the added pressure of striking the balance of advocating for yourself while at the same time not coming off as a cantankerous individual that is then generalized to everyone else who may look like you. The art of the “push-back” is a necessary skill that all graduate students should have as part of their professional skill set. This session will give graduate students different perspectives, individuals’ experiences, and tactics when it comes to self-advocating.
