Session Summary

47.020 - Division E Fireside Chat. Navigating Funding Resources in a "Post-Truth" Era

Sun, April 7, 11:50am to 1:20pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 717B

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

In the current social and political climate, financial support for education research is limited. This is particularly concerning for graduate students and early faculty, given that obtaining external funding is often a critical component to developing and pursuing one’s own program of research. In this session, panelists will discuss how researchers can navigate various sources of funding in this “post-truth” era. Panel members will discuss how to tailor grant and award proposals to more limited government funding opportunities, while also providing insight on how to apply for and obtain research money from less traditional sources, such as foundations and philanthropic individuals. Panelists will offer advice and insight to graduate students and early-career researchers about how to navigate the current landscape.
