35.020 - Women in Academia: Alternative Narratives and Methodologies Creating Space for Diverse Gendered Perspectives

Abstract

This symposium will offer four persepctives from Canadian female scholars who challenge the domination of patriarchy and misogyny in academic institutions and elsewhere through their research. Based on 25 years of work by the Canadian Association for the Study of Women and Education (CASWE), insights from women leaders about ways in which the experiences of women scholars have changed are offered. The presenters then offer four perspectives on ways in which the articulation and researching of gender issues has the potential to challenge and reshape leadership and norms in the academy. Drawing on autoethnographic and narrative research frameworks, perspectives from Canada and other parts of the world are shared.
