This panel presentation showcases research on the impacts of globalization and diversity on Canadian teacher education by members of the Canadian Association for Teacher Education (CATE), an association of the broader organization, Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE). The Canadian education system has been heavily influenced by our diverse population and by forces of globalization. To equip students to cope in this increasingly diverse and globalized society, teachers must possess cross-cultural competencies and knowledge of the world. Panel members will present research that explores how teacher education programs can effectively prepare teachers to ensure all students thrive in our current environment, including research on the challenges and barriers, and the impact of international placement experience on teacher candidates developing intercultural awareness.
