51.021 - Internationalization, Immigration, and Refugee Student Integration: Canadian Experiences and Perspectives

Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 705

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

This panel focuses on Canadian experiences and perspectives in the areas of internationalization, immigration and refugee student integration. Fuelled by forces of globalization, Canadian education is becoming increasingly ethno-culturally diverse as a result of growing immigration and refugee resettlement, and the increasing enrolment of international students in Canadian institutions. Minority and international students bring their values, language, culture, and educational backgrounds to our campuses, adding to and enriching our educational environments. At the same time, we face challenges in building an inclusive learning environment that is socially just and equitable. This panel examines the emerging challenges and opportunities concerning internationalization, immigration, and refugee student integration in Canada with a goal of expanding our new horizons of education in a post-truth era.
