Session Summary

77.013 - The Threat to Public Education From the Political Right in the Americas: Trump, Bolsonaro, Pinera, and Macri

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 100 Level, Room 104D

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

The symposium focuses on recent educational policies held by four different countries in the Americas: USA, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. Assuming that the growth of neo-populism is putting education under attack and increasing the inequalities produced by public policies, the papers aim to understand how the Political Right has been affecting the political scenes in those countries. Assuming academic intellectual activity as inherently political, this symposium also intends to stand as a space-time of resistance and support for those critical scholars who have been under attack.
