63.015 - Are Inclusive Education Policies at Risk? The Sociopolitical Changes in the Americas

Abstract

In the American continent, we have a recent history of implementing diversity policies in Educational Systems. Mobilized by human rights movements, the access, retention, and success of minorities historically excluded from the educational system remain a priority challenge in the democratic educational agenda. In a context of economic advances and political stability, the Americas governments chose the path of inclusive educational policies to address these issues. However, such initiatives have not been sufficient to neutralize conservative political forces. The current conservative agenda take aim at the creation of diversity spaces and the population that is assisted. Identities are being threatened, and just as in the larger political context, the conservative "turn" also dominates the social context. In this way, differentiated identities are once again "favorite targets". Specifically in this symposium, we will analyze some Inclusive Education policies developed in Brazil and Peru, as well as discuss the context of attacks and struggles, and how democratic resistance movements are organized in Brazil and in the US, while discussing the attacks suffered by diverse populations, such as LGBTI +, black, indigenous, person with disabilities, and also teachers.
