64.022 - Education and Interculturality Across the Americas: Achievements and Challenges in an Ongoing Conversation

Abstract

The place of culture and identity in education has been a concern in the region for several decades. Different concepts have been developed to capture the need to integrate both in the educational policy and practice: multiculturality, pluriculturality, Interculturality. The latter is widely used in Latin America although defined as well in multiple ways. This symposium invites for an international comparative discussion on the state and future of education and interculturality, the achievements and challenges that may be identified in specific countries, regions, and educational levels. The symposium presents cases from three countries, showing the similitudes and differences that arise in different contexts and how the concept of interculturality challenges dominant ways to approach the construction of knowledge in education.
